Default Auto inflating PFD

Do any of you wear them? I hate my life jacket, it's not comforable so I was thinking about making the switch for bass tournaments and inshore but for near shore I'd hate for that thing to inflate if I get tossed trying to get out of the surf.

I never wear mine. I do have quick access, just in case though.

You can switch it to manual inflate which is what I do. I had a bad experience when I had one self inflate.

Also, especially for btb AlWAYS wear your pfd. I do take mine off just before I am passing thougj the surf in a few feet a water. But I also generally hop out and wade my yak in and out.

I got stoped and was told to wear it or a ticket. Unless you stow it. If it visible you have to wear it

That's odd. I was stopped in bayou texar last memorial day. He was only interested in checking my license and looking in my cooler and live well. My vest was behind me strapped down. I think you just need access to it.

Wirelessly posted

I just got one for use in my amphibian ultralight aircraft. More comfortable than the one you wear around the waist.

I bought one that auto inflates upon water entry but can be converted to manual inflation via a C02 cartridge.

I've already converted it to manual inflation.

Check the brochure and ensure it states auto or manual inflation. Not all auto inflation life jackets can be converted to manual inflation.

Wife and I have them. Got them with my small cuddy cabin boat - about 10+ years ago. Wife didn't like me being out alone without wearing one.

With my kayak, I've dipped the biz end in the water while wading and auto inflated. Can sure startle you with the initial pop of the capsule. The trigger pills are also dated and should be changed periodically.

Ours are Mustang brand. The FWC was using that brand when we bought ours. I imagine most brands work about the same.

There used to be some that triggered on hydrostatic pressure. Pretty pricey, but fewer false inflations. Haven't seen those in a while.
