Default Any luck nearshore lately?

I am heading down Friday just looking for anything in the Gulf that is willing to bite. Anybody been having any luck with Kings, Cobia or Spanish lately?

Pretty sure they are there, but seas have been too bad for sane people to go

Went out a couple times two weeks ago, bait was there one day and gone the next. I'd bring frozen as a back up to your sabiki. Didn't try smaller rigs/lures for spanish, trolled live cigs and big artificials. Only hits on the troll were Bonita.

How far out do you guys usually troll. I don't have a depth finder so I troll right on the other side of the second sandbar.

As soon as I've made bait I'll toss out the first cig while I catch more bait. Once my bait tube is full I usually push out around 1/4 to 1/2 mile from shore (30-50') if looking only for kings (or mahi) and I'm just trolling/drifting.

Most of the time I troll on my way to public numbers a mile or two out, switch to bottom rigs to see whats biting, then swap out again to troll the way back in.

The current was so bad I couldn't even figure out bait and the water situation changed on me. I brought frozen cigs and a couple eels. I don't have a gps or depth finder so I wouldn't have access to public wrecks.
Ever went out through the destin pass?

Before i had my gps i would rig up a duster rig with a frozen cigar minnow just past the breakers, deploy them, and work my way to the last sandbar/color change. Starting around there you can start getting some spanish. Then i normally just slowly/diagonally head out farther and farther looking for activity or color changes etc. To get to 40-50 feet you have to be pretty far, maybe a half mile to a mile i would guess. Thats where you start finding kings.

Hey thanks for the good advice. I seen the color changes and if I remember right most of the piers don't go out past the 2nd sandbar? I had a eel out too and tried to get lucky but nothing boats were having the hardest time and looked like they weren't spotting any at all.
