Default 12-23-2009: Hoffman Specks

Went out to Hoffman's Bayou plus the other bayou next to it (I don't know the name) for a couple hours with a few other yakfishers: myself, a fellow also named Alex, Taylor (PBTH), and Chris (Private Pilot).

Released around 40ish specks between the 4 of us, most were small but a dozen would have been keepers. Chris actually managed a pretty good flounder that hadn't moved offshore yet.

First speck to the yak. The pics don't do these fish justice. They may have been small but they were really really round.

Alex, the crazy man wading in 50degree water. The crazy things flyfishermen do...

Taylor flyfishing from the yak

Alex bowed up to a speck. Sorry for the picture quality, it was getting dark and my hands were shaking from being cold.

Its to the left of the Gulf breeze boat launch, think its called wayside park. On the Gulf breeze side of 3 mile.

In Gulf Breeze, just West of 3mile Bridge. Though this time of year the specks are stacking up in all of the Bayous in the whole bay system. Just look on the map, pick a bayou, find some deep water, and bounce a soft plastic jig on the bottom. With these fish getting ready to overwinter, they are eating pretty much anything they see to build up their fat stores.

Alex, is it bad that I rely on you to write all of our reports? I think it's because your the one that has the foresight to take lots of random pictures during each outing.

It was a great time today, even with having no tackle or warm clothes. Of course, both those things are easier to bear knowing that my return flight to the Keys is only a few days away:letsdrink.

It's always more fun fishing with others and it was great to meet some more yakkers.
