Default What are we hunting for?

This has been the worst hunting season for me in a decade. I normally have 2-4 deer in the freezer by now. I’m normally really selfish about hunting season. My wife knows to plan things around deer and more importantly turkey season. I spend hours upon hours in the woods chasing deer in the fall. Bow season, black powder, gun season, not to mention dove and ducks. Starting in September I’m wide open until April. This year changed, in fact my entire life changed. I’ve deer hunted 3 times, I’ve dove hunted 4 times, and duck hunted 3 times. Those numbers are normally well into the double digits a piece.
My father beat cancer several years ago. Out of the blue last year he got a nose bleed he couldn’t control for hours. He went to the ER and followed up with his doc. They told him he had a pre-Leukemia. He went to UAB for 9 months got a bone marrow transplant and came home. The bone marrow didn’t take, he went on chemo that didn’t take, he tried experimental drugs which didn’t take. He started a down hill spiral about 2 weeks ago. Monday he went into the hospital with pain, he was placed on hospice Monday night. He succumbed to that disgusting disease this morning at only 63 years old. My dad introduced me to hunting. Our only bonding was the outdoors. He’ll always be with me while I’m in the woods. The moral of this story is to be with the ones you care about when it’s most needed. I can lay my head down at night knowing I spent time with him instead of being selfish. Hopefully by January I’ll be back at it! Godspeed Dad!

So sorry to hear that Jake. Many of my best memories are in the woods with my dad. Let me know if you ever want to come hunt with me at your old stomping grounds.

Sorry for your loss. As soon as you find peace in it, get back out there. Use that time to reflect in those memories with your old man. It’s what he’d want I’m sure.

Sorry for your loss brother. My dad lost his eye sight at age 62 and like your dad, he was all things hunting and fishing and that is where we bonded. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
