Default Should have brought the .223!!!

Because my .308 didn't drop her in her tracks!

Decided to fill a doe tag this evening. Deer walked out on the power line at around 4:40 at about 225 yards. She got broadside and I let the BAR eat.

And damn if she didn't run off! She was low and on plane, straight to the tree line. I honestly thought I missed. Went ahead and got down, didn't see any blood, but followed the tracks where she tore out of there. Found one little chunk of meat and very little blood.

Followed pretty awful blood for about 80 yards where I lost it completely. Called my buddy with a dog and found her 300 yards away pretty quick.

The shot was a bit low, and a bit forward, but I didn't expect her to run that far... and couldn't believe how little blood there was.

#3 for the year for me. MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!

Glad you had access to a dog. It makes me sick to lose one. Good job in persisting till you found her.

Even with a less than perfect shot, the .308 prevailed.

Yep. Just goes to show that shot placement matters no matter how big the bullet. I dropped my shooting stick about 3:30 so this we free hand.

Yes sir.

If it wasn't for the dog, the yotes would be eating good!
