haven't targeted quail in Florida in almost 40 years. As previously stated the predator population and the regulations of fox has wiped them out in our area. We even raised a couple thousand on our land and they too didn't last a year; foxes. We were excited one time when a guy guaranteed us a full limit of birds on his place. when we met him at the gas station to go hunt... Sure enough, he had a limit of birds in a cage in the back of the truck. Needless to say, we didn't hunt with that fellow. I honestly believe if fox were hunted and trapped, the quail would come back.

You wouldn't believe how many foxes I have called in BW when I was trying to hunt coyotes. I can probably call in one fox on every stand if I sat there long enough.

Gray or red fox? I have seen both in this area. I used to see them quite a bit from the train when I was working for the railroad. Mostly grays. They will walk out in the train trestle and kill seagulls and pelicans that perch there to sleep at night. The foxes sometimes would get hit by the trains.

All grays. I called one in a few years ago that I swore was a coyote. His coat was so thick it looked as big as a chow. Called that one into about 10 yards. But I do have a red fox that lives around the house. I tend to try and keep him there in hopes he kills the stray cats lol

DeadBird, Just starting hunting quail on BW this year so not sure how it was the past 5 years. You can release birds on the Carr unit this year so I have been hunting and also releasing birds for the dog. have not had much luck with the wild birds. PM me if you are interesting in going sometime
