^*^^ this. The best thing to do is keep the wind blowing away from the deer. I try to minimize the scent I leave behind walking in and out but there's nothing you can do imo to keep a deer from smelling you if the wind is blowing to it. And for the people that's going to argue and say you've killed 100 deer downwind it's probably because your scent was blowing over it due to thermals and other variables.

Are you 100% sure you've never missed out on an opportunity due to your phone?

Rhetorical question. There's no way to know, right?

So what's 3 seconds to wipe it down is my point. Probably don't do much. Especially if you hunt the wind. But what if it does help...just once? Than all those 3 seconds of wiping your phone down would be well worth the trouble, right?

The amount of rack bucks I've killed over 120" in FL and South Alabama I'd say I'm pretty comfortable saying it's pretty accurate. If not I'm good with it.

And let me ask this....your hands are sweating while you walk, climb, etc. Wiping down your phone at the truck doesn't do much for that. Just saying.

I never hunt the wind and never use any kinda scent spray or scent wash. I've noticed that if a deer comes in and it's cautious it doesn't matter what the wind is doing its gonna find you.

I would think they would smell you gun, if rifle hunting before they smelled a phone.

No offense, but the number of big bucks you've killed really don't say much in itself about how good of a hunter you are. Bad hunters kill big bucks on excellent tracts of land.

But to my point, before killing each one of those big bucks you lay claim to, it's possible your (insert any number of scented items-including phone here) scared a bigger better buck away.

For you, perhaps no big deal. You've killed so many, missing out on one or two here and there may be no big deal.

For me and potentially others, those opportunities may come along at a less rapid rate. So to spend a few extra seconds to take a little extra precaution may be worth it to some. I for one go to great lengths to minimize all scent. Some things I do may be relatively worthless, but it works for me and is little to no extra work on my part--so if it helps (or not) I'm not really out anything.

To answer your question--I wash about two dozen bath rags in scent free soap. Then soak them in a water and baking soda mix. I twist almost all water from the rags and put them in plastic baggies and freeze them. The morning of the hunt I throw one in my pack and wipe down once in stand. I bring a bottled water with me and rinse my mouth regularly also.

Default Phone and odor

To reduce scent on my clothes I am considering hunting in the nude.
