Default My little girl's first buck

My 10 year old daughter has been itching to kill a buck all year. She has been pouting since I shot my buck on MLK Day because her mother made her go to a baby shower that weekend and she had to leave the camp early. Last Saturday, we got in the stand at 3:00 and at 4:10 this 8 point came out at 90 yards with 3 doe. I don't know who was more nervous...me or her. She put her youth model 270 on him and squeezed the trigger and he dropped like a hammer. She started screaming and hugging me when the dang thing got up and ran off. We looked til dark, but couldn't find him and we were heartbroke. I called my wife and told her we were staying up there and I was going back at first light...it was 31 degrees that night so I knew the meat would be fine if I could just find him. I walked the swamp for three hours in some of the thickest stuff you can imagine with my little girl calling me every fifteen minutes from the camp. I finally found him at 10:00 am and spent another hour gutting him and dragging him out. It was well worth it. I am going to get it mounted and let her and her mother fight over putting it in her room at the house or at the cabin. She said all of the boys in her 5th grade class couldn't believe she has killed a bigger deer than any of them.

That is awesome man. She will remember that day forever. My 4 year old daughter is dying for me to take her but I don't think she is ready just yet. Maybe next year.

She's ready!!! Take her, even if you only spend an hour in a house!!! I'll never forget the younger years of my kids in the shooting house/blinds walking through the woods dragging a red ryder making all kinds of racket!!! Now a days it's easier to keep them occupied with phone games and what not!

On to the OP!!! That's a fine deer fer that young lady!!! Heck its a fine deer ifin I killed it!!!! Congrats to ya'll!!!!

Congrats to you for not giving up on the search.

I remember my sons fist bow kill, I would have gotten a dozer out if necessary to find that deer.
great memories.

Yea if I was in a club and had access to a shooting house overlooking a green field it would be a no brainer. Unfortunately, I'm 100% public land and I'm not taking her up a tree with me in the climber. I'll find somewhere to take her next season for sure.
