Default doe behavior

Noticed this for several years, this is the feeder in my yard. Bucks filter thru this time of year all night looking for love, notice the two does bedded. They are like two street walkers waiting on a Jon! Learning to read does for rut may be easier than bucks. Itís not just the males that change! when this starts - it usually happens every night for about two weeks.

I think they get tired of being chased and figured the bucks frequent this area less than their normal bedding area. But, then again I have two that bed in the yard often, 15' from my garage with the radio on 24/7.

The only other time mine bed in yard is when they first give birth. Iím convinced they know yotes wonít come that close to the cabin.

Sat. night was the first good buck I've seen in the yard and the two does were bedded down. Of course the old doe(at least 6 yo) stayed bedded but the 2 1/2 yo jumped up and got chased. I think they do feel more secure.

All females are sluts, only on different days. -Shakespeare-

I'm with Skip on this - does try to get bucks off them by taking them places they would normally never go, like greenfields in broad daylight, open pastures, human habitations, etc.

I had a doe come within ten feet of the house last year, trying to get a 10 point off her. He didn't care. I don't think he even knew there was a house within miles. He wound up breeding her in my front yard.
