Default The Almost Sunday Double

This is how my Sunday played out this past weekend:

Get to my spot which borders a swamp by about 40 yards, as I'm walking down the road to my entrance an older fella hollers from his porch and ask if I ever get any deer back there so we talk and the last thing he tells me is that he got my vote to kill em all, so I tell him no problem you got it sir. I get settled in my stand well before daylight as I'm waiting I check the wind and notice it's swirling right to where the deer are expected to come so I get down and put out some doe urine, 50 minutes later I hear deer walking behind me to my right I clip on release and get ready 2 big does come out at 30 yards to my right but cannot get a shot since I'm a right handed shooter, so I watched them walk away but I knew they'd come back in the evening and check the area out of curiosity. So I head home get lunch relaxe and go to walmart for more scent and they actually had what I was looking for. So it's 3 o clock and I'm back wind is still swirling towards the expected travel route so this time I put out 4 wicks about 10 yards apart in a straight line from 25yds to my front and 10 yards to my left. Now I'm back up and it's getting close to 4 (regularly at 5 is when first doe will cross creek bottom coming from swamp) so I get ready soon as I stand up I see movement 40 yards in front of me it's a doe she's circling around scent just like I want them too she gets to 20yds and I draw back but she keeps walking closer to me she finally gets to 10 yards broadside and I let it rip thwack! She's down in her tracks no track job needed so as she's dying I start texting everyone, but then I heard the old guys voice in my head saying kill em all. So I nock on another arrow since it's only 415, 10 minutes later I hear and see movement to my left, it's the 2 does from the morning hunt coming in a straight line to me from the left I'm focused on the back doe cause she's bigger, smaller one cheats up to 5yds from my left and sees the first one I shot on the ground and she freaks jumps about 5ft and runs under cover to observe at this point I'm already drawed back on the other doe and when the small one jump she turned quartering to me as I released the arrow it hit her in front of the left shoulder high but went down at an angle, she takes off and I hear her crashing like crazy. So now my hunt is over and I'm just waiting it out for a few minutes to relaxe and calm my nerves from the great hunt that just happened. I finally get down and first doe shot is dead, so I go to where I shot second doe and check for arrow and blood I find the arrow 5 yards after shot it is bent at about 7 inches but covered with blood. I find a good blood trail to start on and I back out. Come back 3 hours later and the blood trail is slowing down drastically so I leave my white paper trail behind and decide I'll come back at first light to look and give her time since it was cool out. So I get other doe dress her out and head home. Wakeup at 530 this morning and head back I finally start finding more blood and I'm getting excited then I hit thick cover and it slows down again and as I'm looking I hear something trotting away slowly but can't see far enough to shoot, 20 yards later I hit fresh droppings and very faint blood specks. Then I hit the swamp and it got extremely thick beyond my liking and no blood for 10yds so I throw in the towel and head to work, the swamp has her now. But it was a good effort on my part and an amazing hunt/learning experience. On the way back to work I felt pretty down about not finding the second deer so I decided to donate the small one and earn my next doe from this spot when I go back. So how's that for a Sunday fellas!!
