Whacked and stacked: Lionfish, AJ & black snapper
I joined the crew of Niuhi Dive Charters for a great day of diving on Sunday. We harvested over 140 lionfish, 5 black/gray snapper and one AJ. We got most of the lionfish on the Avocet. As followers of our exploits may remember, we killed 120 lionfish on the Avocet back in November. Lionfish were harder to find and I spotted many more tiny lionfish. Water temp was 62 on the surface and a little warmer on the wreck.
Alex Fogg, a researcher with the Gulf Coast Research Lab filleted many of the lionfish for us and took the carcasses back to the lab for analysis. Calm seas. No current. Vis was 30-40’.
