Default Starting out

New to diving, never tried spear fishing, we plan to go out tomorrow. The crew 3 guys + me it is mine and another guys first dives since getting certified last month. Third guy maybe a year of experience diving/shooting and the fourth been doing it for more than a decade but infrequently. Me and the other newbie just want take a pole spear down with us mainly just wanting to get experience in the water and use some knowledge before we start forgetting things. I am looking for some advice on dive sites (not asking for any private numbers just your thoughts on good starter public sites) and any general advice you experts want to throw my way. I would like to stay in 50ft or less (my random picked comfort zone) most of the sites I bottom fish on are 100
ft or deeper. We will be on my boat coming out of orange beach any advice welcome.

Be careful and only use a pole spear for your first few dives. I am no expert but I'd say you should have a pole spear, it's a good tool besides fishing to use as a tool to help control buoyancy and for defense should you need it. Your buoyancy is key if you are going to the bottom, flounder and other fish will wreck your vis by stirring up the bottom and if you guys have your fins in the sand, silt, mud vis will be bad in no time flat.

Had a great time. Saw plenty of those rare red snapper. We could not have asked for a better day for mine and one guys first time. We made 3 dives I as mentioned early I took a pole spear but didn't shoot at anything. It was just an awesome experience can't wait to get back down
