Default Spearing Lionfish video

Video of us testing out a newly designed Lionfish Hawiian Sling and Lionfish Polespear. Though this video was not shot in pensacola, we do have a significant lionfish population here and can expect larger populations here in the future. FYI:::These lionfish are an invasive fish native to the Indo-Pacific and have no natural predators in the Atlantic or Gulf environments. They have spines on the dorsal, anal and pelvic region that contain a powerful neurotoxin. Though we did eat many of them (maybe 7 or so) and they were very mild and tasty, many were simply killed in an effort protect the reef fish population. Lionfish wreak havoc on the marine environment, not only by consuming many of the juvenile reef fish (snapper, grouper etc.), but also by out-competing other native species, leading to a reduction in the natural biodiversity that we Pensacolians enjoy. Note that we do make an effort to keep from touching the coral, but in an effort to take care of the lionfish, it is sometimes impossible. If you're interested, talk to the guys at MBT, they should be able to order these lionfish spears. They also sell lionfish stickers so you can show how many you've killed. I'm at 17. Enjoy

I don't mean to sound preachy, I just don't want people to wonder why I'm killing pretty fish and leaving them to die
