Default Learning to spearfish

I've been diving for over a year now and I'm ready to get into spear fishing. I don't have any close friends that spearfish and I don't wanna be a burden on someone. How would you suggest going about learning? Do any dive shops offer spear fishing guides?

I'd just post on here & meet other people that do it. There are people that want to meet people to go with. Just offer to help pay for the fuel & cleanup afterward.

Scuba or freediving? Either way you can come by and we can share our experiences and what we know. My shop specializes in freedive spearfishing so the dive gear is different but the spearfishing equipment crosses over. 2 of us here have also extensively scuba speared as well.

I know of a shop in PCB that offers an "intro to spear fishing class" that in addition to some instruction on a range of applicable topics will also take you on a guided spearing charter.

I watched that video many years ago. From what I remember, it was very informative and had some great tips. I agree with Hangover, watching the video is a great start.

My #1 rule to spearfishing...don't shoot me!!!
