Default Kings and the like...

So, I have never went after them specifically so therefore have no experience targeting them. I know when you want to catch one on a rod and reel typically trolling is the way to go. I have never seen one spearfishing....

Do they just hang around wrecks and reefs like many other fish? If so, do they just hang out on the outside then you throw flashers to get them to come in range?

I have never really used flashers. I have thought about it in the past but typically end up just diving down and shooting what is around. I guess I should experiment with them either way to see what I can drum up...

Anyway, just looking for some opinions.

Thanks!

I generally dislike trolling the older I get. We usually target them while bottom fishing by fly lining some cigs or hardtails.

You can also look for them chasing bait balls, you get lucky enough and you'll see one going into orbit.

Throw flashers are very effective on kings. Alot of times I just hold one in my hand a flash it around. Definitely helps bring them closer. Body language is everything though. They hold above and outside most big structure.

Flashers, chum, and bait. If you can find good schools of bait then there will probably be kings and spanish around. I usually see them 100-300 feet ahead or behind a wreck, not usually right over it. I'm planning on going off the beach in my kayak this summer to drift for them with some flashers and possibly chum if I feel like braving the sharks and I'm always looking for buddies if you're interested. I'll be mostly going out of Gulf Shores but I also like Navarre and Destin if it's a weekday
