Default Help Please!

Hello everyone I am fairly new to the forum and very new to spearfishing the Gulf. I grew up on an island called Roatan that most avid divers have heard of. I have been diving my whole life beginning with a PADI jr cert at 12 yoa. I have probably logged at least 500 dives. This weekend was my first spearfishing trip in the Gulf (other than a BS warm up trip to the 3 barges) and my first time on my own boat and not a dive boat. We went to the Pete Tide II and found it with no problem. Unfortunately we could not stay anchored, any suggestions? Also my buddy and I own our boat together and try to go out of pensacola every weeknd possible, so if anyone is looking to make a trip let me know. Any advice on actually locating the various sites and how to correctly anchor on them would be most helpful.

Thanks again.

I would suggest some anchor chain if you do not have any, and possibly put out more length of anchor line. Most say a minimum of 3:1, with an increase to that ratio with rougher seas. Off the top of my head, I think the Pete Tide 2 is at 100 feet. That would equate to 300 feet of line or more.

What size anchor, what type, and how much chain are you using? In 100' of water in calm seas you should be good with 200' of rope. I have a 16lb anchor on 10' of chain and it holds both the 26' and 22' cc no problem.
