Default First time free diving...

Went out this weekend to practice free diving and to exercise the lungs, started out on the intake vent just east of the destin pass in about 25 feet. First time I dove down there was life all over, small ajs, tons of spadefish and all kinds of tropical fish you'd see in a saltwater aquarium. Good shallow dive if you've never been. The we headed over to the old crystal beach peir pilings, not much around but saw a big spadefish. Headed a little further out to the Ms louise, lungs aren't big enough to get to the bottom but got down to a nice school of AJs in the middle of the water column, nothing big enough to shoot but still a lot of fun. Headed back in the bay to some big holes that always have fish in them and ended the day with 3 black snapper and 6 nice mullet. Still got a lot of training till I can dive deep enough for the big boys but I plan on getting into it this fall. Any one in the destin area with experience is welcome to come along some time.

Are you using freediving fins? I got the cressi garas last summer to use in the keys, they make a HUGE difference in how deep I can dive, the power is amazing. Only downside for me is after using them a couple days in a row they hurt my lower back bad, too much torque I guess but I use them sparingly.

The dive shop in fort walton didn't have any, are the ones you use split fins? I'm in the market for some but don't want to break the bank, could I get a pair in the $100 range?

Mine are the 3000 LD, seems like they were around 120 when I got them. They are 36 inches long, not a split fin. To my knowledge, there are no split fin freediving fins, I don't think you would want them.

Also, for the record, call MBT or a local dive shop and see what they have and if they will match or beat a price, don't order them from leisure pro. It's just a good site to browse and see all the types of fins on one page.

We've got the Gara 3000's at $129, Gara 2000 for $169 at MBT - and deduct 10% for forum discount.

There ya go, cheaper than online, plus you get to try them on yourself, meet some nice people, and support a local business! Heck of a deal!
