Default Biiiiiig Bull won today!

Taking advantage of the beautiful day today, we headed out looking for snapper and whatever else we could kill. The day was supposed to be 2-3' but my buddy drove by the gulf and convinced me it was nothing like that. He was right. Five of us hit the launch and headed towards the pass. I am the rookie in this group. All are fire fighters. 3 are medics. 1 is a dive instructor. All are on the search and recovery team for the station. Me...I'm just the guy with the boat who dabbles in a little underwater fishing and happens to like really calm water.

Headed first to a spot we hoped would be good, but wound up being nothing but angelfish (although the spot should have been loaded with fish.) First two divers back in the boat and we headed to another hard bottom spot. This is where it got tricky. 3 of us rolled in and headed to the bottom. I felt uneasy so I aborted the dive half way in and the other two stayed under to shoot what they said were 15-20 lb snapper everywhere. The only problem was that every time they shot one the tax man wanted to get paid. One was a 10' bull and the other was 6-7' bull. It was almost like they worked as a team. The water was pretty murky so after losing a few fish, the divers surfaced and we heard the stories. Hmmm, decision time...do we roll over again and try to kill some fish or head to another spot. All in favor...yeah, we're gonna move. The next spot opened up very nicely and we were able to kill several lion fish, a snapper, and saw a few lobster. Beautiful dive. Moved a few hundred yards and the next two rolled over chasing a cobia under some weeds. Not to be had. On the bottom they explored but came up empty. Should have brought the lionfish trap on this one. Also chased by the tax man on this spot. I had an appointment at 3 so we headed towards the house. Stopped and dove short just to burn the rest of our air but nothing to show for it but an anchor and chain we recovered. Back at the launch just a bit late for my appointment but well worth it. Now they are calling for slick seas on Thursday. Dang it...I really need to work this week. Hmmm, decisions.

Is it my imagination or is the Tax Man being a bit greedy this fiscal year? - Ric

When fishing we have notice way too many sharks at this time everywhere we go. Also all the undersized Cobia running with them.

Not sure I can loan them for a whole month. I was figuring a week or so. We set them pretty regularly. If you need traps for a month I may be willing to split some with you if you want to buy some to use. I can get them from the trap builder for less than Wally World.
