Default Steinhatchee Scallops

Took the family to Steinhatchee this weekend for a Scallop trip. We were able to get out Friday and Saturday.

Friday the water was rough and the wind was blowing so we were later getting out. Went north up towards Keaton Beach as that was where the reports were coming from. Managed to pick up about 3 gal. before heading back in. All the scallops seemed to be in 6' or better of water. Went south to check the water and it was horrible visibility. Picked up a few but couldn't see more than about 2'

Saturday weather was better and seas were flat. Went north to Keaton Beach area again. Lot more boats and people. Scallops were hard to find and moved around a lot until we came up on an area with a good many. Picked up about 5 gal. and headed back to try and beat a storm. Ended up getting caught up in storm but we were able to make it home safely.

Not as good as years past but still a good time and the kids had a blast.

where did you stay while you were there? I have been on our boat and stayed on it several times but never explored local motels or B&B's. Is the little restaurant still open at the marina? had some great fried oysters there in past trips, every bit as tasty as n Apalach

We stayed in a house in Jena. Sunset point. Awesome place if you have kids with you. TidL creek that they had a big time kayaking in. The best restaraunt by far is fiddlers. It is a good ways up the river. Not at a marina though but has boat slips. Sea Hagg has a great cleaning station and an unattended tiki bar.

thanks for sharing in your success!
that's a lot of scallops from my perspective as I've never tried to harvest-I'll bring the bacon :-)
