Default Labor Day Weekend Scallops

Didn't expect much at Port St. Joe based on recent reports. We did get our limit each day and had a blast. Can't wait for next year.

That was a nice haul. They are building back up the stock and grassbeds around Black Island, and really restricted the season to basically Labor Day weekend with a small bag limit.

If your picture does the catch justice, having to wait until late August seems to have allowed the scallops to get much bigger. Many I've pulled on previous opening days (7/1) were really small, to the point that I quit keeping them.

I've fished and scalloped in SJB since the early 80s, and the scallop crop really has dwindled. Hopefully this project will be successful, but they won't 'go snapper' on us and keep the harvest limits as severe as this year.

The Feds are not involved... I've found the "State" folks to be much more reasonable than the Fed folks.
