Default Inshore Fishing Venice, La.--Capt. Damon McKnight-Super Strike Charters

Venice, La. Inshore Fishing Report—Super Strike Charters-5/11/2015.

The inshore fishing this past April and now early May has been very good for catching Redfish. Some days were more catching than fishing but there were some days we really had to work for a limit. The tides have mostly been rising in the mornings thru mid-April so some days that was part of the problem, but as soon as it turned around and starting falling the bite was usually on. Most of our trips we have limited out, some days missing it by only a few fish but the opportunity is usually always there. There has been a fairly good mix of Bull Reds (27 inchers or bigger) and what we consider to be the better eating keeper reds at 26 inches or less. The Trout have started to show up so some days are good for them as well. You have to be in the exact right spot, if not the boats around you are catching and you can’t get a bite so timing and location have been the key to getting on the trout. We are also catching a lot of Sheephead and Black Drum as well so were getting a good box of fish at the end of the trip. This past Friday-Sunday the Redfish and Trout bite has been good. Sunday was the slower catching Trout for us, but one angler, Ross Wolfenden, ended up with an 8lb. trout which is very good fish and hard to find. So the big ones are there, most avg. about 2lbs. with some going 3-4lbs. right now. However, there is always a chance of catching the bigger ones. Most of our fish were caught on live shrimp this past week, but some of our reds and trout were caught on artificial as well. The bait of choice using artificial was Vortex Shad/purple haze under a cork. As we move through May and into June the fishing should only get better. We have open days for both months fishing inshore and if your into offshore as well we can do that to. Lodging is available at the Marina.
