Default Backcountry Reds 1/28/11

After finding some pretty big schools on open water mud flats, I went scouting in the backcountry to see if I could find some schools in smaller water. I ran the trolling motor for nearly 4 hours without a sniff. Pulled up to an isolated oyster bar, and six consectutive casts yielded six of these future bruisers:

The water was rising pretty good now, and I took a different creek loop to get back out. Ended up running over a huge school of these:

I got lucky on the bigger reds and caught one as they were running away. As soon as I unhooked him, a small group came up behind the boat, and I hooked another. By then they were pretty scattered and I made one more cast to where I thought they were, and caught the one in the photo. All three were cookie cutter 25 inchers. Sorry for the weak photography, went solo, didn't have Michelle's guidance. All fish caught on motor oil and white grubs. Water temps started out at 45 and ended up right at 50 in the backcountry at midday. For those of you debating, these next three days should be outstanding for this type of low tide Redfishing.

WOW! From the pics I thought you were in Escambia River. I guess the reds are up there too this time of year
