Default Mullet Hole

Decided to try a mullet hole near Choctawhatchee Bay yesterday afternoon . Wind was a little problem which brought down the chill factor a little but it was tolerable. Had planned to squirrel hunt this morning so just wore my heavy hunting gear which was a good decision.

Set up at the hole and put out bait although I didn't see anything but bait fish on the side scan. After a good while with no bites and no good fish on the sonar I decided to toss a gold spoon and see what happend. Right off, first cast, got two or three light taps. Each cast got hits but no hookup. Figured it must be small speckled trout and it was.

Switched to a Mann's Hard Nose, mullet 3 1/2 inch electric chicken on 1/8 oz jig. Next four cast brought in a short speck. The bite was brisk. Caught 19 on this one bait before they tore off the paddle tail. Didn't have any more this size. Switched to 4 1/2 inch.

No keepers yet so decided to up anchor and drift. Managed eight more although the bite was much slower. However, I did bring home one 17 inch keeper.

Encountered two other boats fishing specks. They reported a ton of shorts. One had 2 keepers and one 1 keeper.

I started at 1:30 and quite at 4:15.

Didn't go after squirrels this morning due to wind already started before daylight.

Appreciate the report, JB.
