Default River cat roll call...

OK today had an hour after work. Dunked the new (to me) sled and saw shad flipping at the ramp. First net throw caught a 5 lb carp. Next throw 1 shad. Next throw -- 20 lb paddlefish! Last throw loaded up with shad. So that was the highlight of the day.

River is up about 5 feet. Tried a flat from 4 to 12 feet. Nothing. Next tried the mouth of the Cahaba River. Nothing. Next hit a creek mouth (The Big Ditch). Not a nibble. Hit the mouth of Cook's Creek. Not a bite.

Back up river, tried some flooded timber. Nah. Nothing. More upriver tied up to a tree on a clay bank. Finally some action! Caught a spotted bass (on a shad chunk). Got a few more hits. Stuck the hook in one heavy fish but it pulled on the first run.

Back downriver to the foot of an island. Got bit steady but nothing serious.

So.... on a rising high river. Where are you finding cats?

I catch them better on a fall than a rise. The ones Iíve caught lately were full of eggs.

Well I'll be of no help here......I always dog off the catfishing when it floods.

Thanks, good info there. I've never seen them shut down so hard. A few days ago we did well but the river was stable.
