Went out on the "Mayhem" 31' Cape Horn from Orange beach. Left around 7am to head to the rigs in flat water. Started really kicking up around 4:00, we were planning on doing some sword prospecting around the rigs, but it got way too sloppy out there for us to spend the night so we headed in around 9:30pm I believe, I wasn't keeping track of time too much because we were focused on getting everything squared away for the ride home.

Ended up with 2 yellowfin, couple of blackfin, and one amberjack.

Not many pictures but here's the biggest yellow. Caught trolling a fake rubber flying fish on a kite near the rig. We got hit multiple times but the hook we originally used was getting fouled in the bait. We switched it off and got this little sucker.

That fake flying fish on the kite trick is pretty cool , we've used that before to catch quite a few fish. It seems the wind will never kick enough to fly your kite and when it does blow hard enough it's maybe time to leave:D

Trolling the kite seems to be the ticket , glad to see someone else figure that out , good job adjusting and catching a few before the seas pushed you out. I bet you would have filled the boat had you been able to stay.

BTW : have you eve tried flying the kite at night ?

If not:

That's when I've done the best

Pelagic Pirate - that was actually the first time I was on my buddies boat and the first time he had flown a kite. We're new to the whole kite scene and refining our technique. We weren't extremely prepared to start getting alot of hits on the kite but next time we will load the boat up!

And yes the wind is either 0 knots or blowing 20. I'm just happy that we put a fish on the deck and it was quote by my family, "The best tasting fish they have ever had." It was the first tuna I had been able to bring home and hopefully many more to come!
