Default Report from 6/10-6/11

Left out of OB around 9:00am with some forum members that I met up with and headed south of the Yellow Gravel around the Elbow area. Found the rip that we had been following on hiltons and put a spread in. Started trolling with a bird chain/cedar plug on the shot gun, two ballyhoo with dusters on the outriggers, and some big baits on the shorts.

We trolled for about 30 minutes and then one of the outrigger clips with the ballyhoo exploded then the line went slack. Turned out to be a bad crimp, rechecked all the crimps and then put another ballyhoo back out there. Got hooked up to some chickens and super chickens about every 10-15 minutes of trolling for the next hour all on the ballyhoo/duster that we were pulling on the outriggers.

About 2 hours into trolling we get slammed on one of the outriggers and line starts peeling off the reel. It was a much bigger fish and after about a 10-15 minute fight we landed a 35lb yellowfin. Caught a few more mahi after that and then decided to start bottom fishing.

After bottom fishing we ran to the Marlin rig with nothing happening so we eased over to the West Neptune and hooked up to a blackfin tuna on the first pass. There was not much going on here and the blackfin were really finicky. We did not get one on a jig all night!!

The next day was quite uneventful so we made it in around noon.

Good job on the yellowfin tuna. FYI the only jig I could get the tuna to hit on a recent trip was a fall flat jig. Much easier to use than diamond jigs. Glow glow glow.
