Default PBGFC Ladies tournament

Coco Loco fished the PBGFC ladies this past weekend. We left Palafox Pier at 11:00pm Friday to a beautiful, comfortable ride to the Nipple to sleep. Moon was so full it was almost like daylight. The crew was excited to begin the tournament so rather than sleep in our beds we chose to sleep offshore. You know how is comfortable it is to sleep on the fishing grounds with a 1 foot or less forecast. (Me neither, we rocked all night with little sleep.) Lines in at first light and by 8:30 had produced a 20 dolphin at the elbow, Thunderheads built to the south and decided the best chance was to push through a break in the clouds to the east, with Hilton's showing fresh water to the west. Saw several waterspouts drop from clouds when we spotted the largest water spout I have ever seen in 40 years offshore. From a mile away it was a complete cylinder of water from the surface to the clouds that looked to cover a city block where it entered the water. If they named waterspouts that one would definitely qualify. Found clearer skies back south of the nipple. As we trolled open water at midday the crew and captain were exhausted, all but one was asleep. Out of the blue a knockdown on the wayback with a bird and jet. Whity that almost spooled us before we could get it under control and began backing down on it. He came to the boat after 20 minute fight to be tagged and revived for release. Continued to troll inside the shelf toward the edge when a school of tuna some yellowfin some blackfin charged the boat. I had just put out 4 ballyhoo and got slammed with a triple tuna hookup. Landed two black fin with the largest weighing 20 pounds. Picked up lines at 5:30pm and headed for the weigh in. When is was all said and done our lady angler held 3rd place tag and release for the white marlin. Her first tournament win. Sea state was choppy with larger seas around thunderstorms, clean green water, few scattered weeds, limited birds, and few tide lines. Great trip but will sleep at home from now own.

Sounds like a great trip! your comment about what it's like to sleep in <1' seas is so true! I have spent a million nights offshore but can't ever remember one where it was dead calm. Sounds like you were rewarded for your efforts!

We were out there too. Counted 9 spouts that morning. The big one was about 12-15 miles away and about the size of an EF-1. We were 1 for 3 on the whites. Video coming soon.

we fished the ladies tournament as well on the Miss Mickey. we had just run into a great area by the elbow with fish busting across a large area when we had whitey hop on to our spread. got him to the boat as the rain started and were chased out of what was a hot area by that same thunderstorm. That spout was BIG!

Great tourney,

Thanks for the post!
