Default Out to the Nipple June 30, 2013.

After watching the weather go up and down over the last week we decided last minute to trust Reefcast and head out. Hit the water at 0600 to go for bait. Had an issue with the bait pump right off the bat but improvised and ended up with a dozen or so really nice bait. Headed to the edge and put out the spread. We made our way down towards the Nipple and as soon as we arrived the wind picked up and started howling at about 20 knots from the west. Seas kicked up to 5 feet and the upset stomachs started coming on strong. Let me say, when you are the only boat that far out with some rollers higher than your bow, it's an eerie feeling. Even the coast guard plane circled us a few times and said hello. A few beers and an exciting knockdown from a big bonita broke the dull afternoon. Turned north and headed back to to the edge. The damn hydraulic steering helm went bonkers and sprung a leak at this point. My buddy has a picture of it that i'll post, but we had to set up an IV drip to the helm station to keep us under control and maintain steerage. Not a single knock down for the rest of the day. Got inshore to flat seas and did a little bottom dropping. Not much luck other than a nice lane and a football hardtail on top water for fun. Weighed the bonita in at the Sertoma tournament just for fun and took first in largest cut bait fish
Back to Sherman at 5 and home by 630. Tough day out but a lot of fun with great friends. Hope the weather man gets it right next time!

I'll collect some photos from the guys and throw them on here later. Thanks.

Yeah I was headed out there yesterday but ended up stopping at the edge because of the storms. I bet you were the boat I saw trolling southeast. Trolled for a bit with not even a strike. Thankfully the bite was good at the edge, but the wind and current was horrid. Made for about 2 minutes of bad holding at the spot before we were blown away.
