Default Nipple Report 9/29: Nothing to Report.

Only had time for a day trip and the forecast called for the front coming so we headed to the Nipple.

Seas were flat and weather was great despite the looming raining to the West.

Looked like others had the same idea. Got to the area by 8'ish and saw at least 6 other boats working the area. Everything from small CC to big sportfishers.

Water was a blended blue-green. Visible current/wind lines around. Lots of fliers.

It was looking fishy. Furthermore, as we were setting the lines we heard radio reports of boats landing whites, blues, wahoo, dolphin.

Sounds promising. Sounded all it was. No idea where those boats actually were, but had to be within radio range of 20-30 miles?

Only one knock down on rigger at a ripp with some grass and debris that another boat was working hard (sportfisher).
It took the ballyhoo off the islander. Thinking a White or Sail. But will never know.

I also lost an islander to a wahoo or king as we were pulling the lines in to leave around the edge.

Based on Hilton's we found the water I expected blended blue green with no real defined break. I was hoping to get lucky and find a few Pelagic's working the structure in that area. I should have went with my gut and went west by the steps after seeing the satellite shot the night before showing good blue water.

Oh well. That's fishing.

That's more knockdowns than I got. I didn't get a single bite while trolling offshore. I caught a cuda under a weed mat after I coaxed him in to biting and we caught a bunch of bonita after we ran back in. I was actually happy to catch bonita after such a slow day. We did get some cool go pro footage of some flipper's though as they were swimming around the boat.

As soon as I get the footage from the camera man I'll post it.
