Default The Go - No Go Report

Left OB way later than we wanted to (3pm, instead of planned 12pm).

Got to Petronius around 5:30pm. Circled rig looking for up current side and any signs of life. No current. Very little marks.

Dropped a few jigs. On right away. Medium sized BFT.

Put the newbies to work to burn off there enthusiasm.

Kept 8 or so of the bigger ones to eat if the YFT never show. Kept 6 or so for chunking.

Ran to the Marlin. Same drill. No current-no YFT. (At least down to 400').

Caught a few more BFT. Marked a little more stuff so figured try chunking, maybe, just maybe, YFT were deeper and would come up.

Wrong! No YFT after 6 chunked BFT and 20# Pogies.

Everyone tired now. So off to sleep. Split crew into 2.

I was on first watch. Idled over to Deepwater Champion just a mile or so away. Jigged BFT again. No big signs of life.

Idled back to Marlin. Woke second shift.

We decide to go to the Ram. Hoping for YFT. Got to Ram. Same, no current-no YFT. Jigged BFT.

About 1 hr before gray light we readied the boat for the sunrise YFT assault.

Got trolling gear ready. Pre chunked BFT and Pogies. A few live bait rods.

Trolled from gray light to sunrise, about and hour. No life. No signs of life.

Chunked a little to see if we could "wake-em up"! Their still sleeping!

Finally, saw small BFT feeding. Caught a few to slow troll.

Slow trolled small BFT and only Hardtail we had from earlier.

Guess what.....No YFT. What the HELL!!??

Ran to Beer Can. More of the same. Nothing remarkable.

By then....my resident optimist was slowly turning....pessimist!

Hit a few shelf rigs to see if could bring a grouper home. Sharks were like mosquitos and swarming baits before even get bait to depth, even with 24 oz on the rigs. Got rocked (rigged in this case) a few times on the bottom.

With a 60 mile ride of 4' head seas...we left without our YFT!!!

Saw a whale a few mile N of the Beer Can.

P.S. there was a Seismic Ship towing all around out there. Had to avoid one from Marlin and home from Beer Can. They requested a 7 Mile C.A.P.!!!!

Overall, not the best trip but got some tuna meat (BFT) and had a lot of fun with the guys.
Realtor and Reelbait like this.
