Default GET SHORTY Report June 25-27

Had so much fun the weekend before we decided to make another run this last Thursday night . The forecast wasn't great but we took a chance and actually had decent seas and weather till the very end of the trip.

Thursday night we got to the swordfish grounds at 9 pm and fished till day break with out a single bite . Started trolling at day break and at 6 am had a monster wahoo only to have it shake the hooks on its second massive run when it doubled back at the boat a thousand mph . Found pretty water around the middle of the dumping grounds and from here trolled east till we found the mother of all rips and weed lines chuck full of logs, buoys, buckets , a pallet , a spool ect . The only problem was not much going on except a ton of bait and giant hardtails . Eventually we trolled up a few dolphin fish and eventually we decided to stop and chum .

This panned out for about 2 hours of straight catching with a few really nice bulls and a giant cow along with plenty of super chickens. We caught a really good box full and then decided to troll again to try for bigger fish . Worked till 6 pm and caught a few more Bulls by teasing them up on squid chains and dropping Bally hoo to them . We also saw a pretty fair amount of tuna around but they wouldn't eat anything we tried , and seemed super boat shy as they would disappear any time we got anywhere near them.

Eventually we pressed north to the top of the canyon to fish swords and had zero bites again despite tons of bait seen and metered . Around 4 am sat the wind picked up big time and the seas followed causing us to end the trip then and head home. Made it back to the marina at 10 am sat and cleaned up the mess and headed home .

Good luck out there and be safe

Great report. Sounds like you guys worked hard for what you got and did some innovative method application.

Too bad about the swords but you never know unless you go.

Sounds like you still came home with a ton of meat in the box even though you didn't get a sword on the deck. Nice work out there and thank you for sharing the report!
