Default Floater Rig trip 5/17-5/18

Headed out of the pass Friday afternoon with the forcast saying it was going to be a little sporty. Made the long run into 2-3' seas until we got to the beercan. Put out a trolling spread and started to make a few laps. Tuna all marking on the upcurrent side of the rig around 100'. First lap 2 rods get hit. Blackfin,Blackfin. Next lap, the same thing. Blackfin. Next pass, Blackfin, imagine that. Could not hook anything of the yellow species because the blackfin were so thick. After dark the same thing, blackfin after blackfin. The new ocean led's I put on the boat are absolutely amazing. Ripcharts had the beercan and Marlin in -40 altimetry. It was absolutely purple water and clear as a bell. Could see many large grey suits swimming underneath the boat. All in all the sharks were not as bad as they have been in the past, as it seeems the underwater lights blinded them. To make a long story short, ended up with 35 blackfin and a nice skipjack tuna. Nice rip in between Marlin and beercan. Scattered grass everywhere else.
Hope the yellowfin show up soon. Heard some reports from other boats the tuna were a little further south. If the weather had cooperated, thats where I would have been. So close, but yet so far. Ther's always next time. All in all good trip, lots of laughs, and made it back safe.
