Default Destin White

Took the boat from OB to Destin this past weekend to fish with some old school friends. After short close in trip Friday plan for Saturday was to fish some bottom spots out to deeper water and then troll for some pelagics.

For trolling I decided to focus on the drop-offs and sharp bottom contours between the Maritimer and Ozark with a mixed spread. Lots of scattered grass made for frustrating trolling and lots of work clearing lines.

About 45 minutes into the troll we got a knock-down on the right rigger pulling a small sea-witch type duster and ballyhoo. No hook-up and as I was dropping the bait back the left rigger got knocked down and a solid hook-up to a fish on a blue and white Ilander and ballyhoo. My buddy is on the rod and after 20 seconds or so the fish explodes out of the water...nice white marlin.

The fish really put on a show and did all the acrobatics he could do. After about 15 minutes we had him boat side and leadered for a clean release. One fish made the day.

Nice pics! I was just debating heading to Ozark and squiggles area maybe this weekend. How was the water over that way other than scattered grass? Should have been blue- was it?

Water was pretty and clear but not deep blue. We caught the fish in 350' of water and never made it toward the Squiggles. Some fliers but not lots of bait present.

It looked like some of the grass was starting to form in lines and patches.

Blue water looks like it's pushed in close in the Ozark area right now. Congrats on the white.
