Default 9/9 Report Nipple & Elbow

Hit the rocks at Perdido Pass about 6:00am heading toward the Nipple. Pulled up a few miles short and put a mixed spread out. Not long into the troll we get a knock-down on a ballyhoo & duster but no hook up.

Over the next hour we get 3 more knock-downs but no fish...all on small ballyhoo from the outriggers. We can see several schools of small tuna skying and busting the water, but can't get any love from them.

Pull up and run to the Elbow where we see 4 or 5 large sportfisherman working. We go through scattered grass and then come to a number of nice grass patches and a decent weedline. Right away pick up a schoolie dolphin.

The weedline is covered up with bait...flying fish, schools of minnows, and small jacks. But we don't pick up any more bites. After a while with no strikes we start to move off toward the SW toward some bottom spots and come up on a large weed patch...also covered up in bait fish and some small tripletails. Cut up a ballyhoo and chum up some chicken dolphin, and then see 3 larger dolphin. We get a live pinfish into the mix that gets picked up by a nice dolphin, and the other 2 (and larger) fish follow it to the boat.

While trying to get another bait out the hooked fish gets into the motors and is lost. So much for being greedy.

Finished the day hitting some rock piles for a mixed bag of a ~30 lb. AJ, some scamp, almaco jack, some vermilion snapper, and ARS (released). On one spot a few miles NW of the Elbow we have a blue marlin free jump while chasing flying fish about 30 yards from the boat.

While the trolling was somewhat disappointing it was beautiful day on the Gulf and the water was pretty and full of life.
