0-4 and other swing and misses
Title says it all - We pulled baits all day and at 830 a bit east of the nipple had a pack of whites come in and terrorize us. We had both riggers pop at the same time and while dropping back the flats were getting worked over. We came tight on two of them but didn't even get a jump before the game was over. Hooks were sharp, these little guys just didn't give us the right angle to hook them I guess. We worked that area pretty hard with nothing else to show then ran SW of the Nipple and up on the shelf a little into 400' we had a couple random knockdowns and even some that smoked drag for 10 secs but came unbuttoned. All we ended up with were a handful of roughed up leaders from the marlin bite and a hurt ego from the lack of fish in the box.
There are several ok lines from 300' and south, we didn't see the first mahi, but we found triple tail and other weed line fish like banded rudders and file fish. Couple gigantic turtles, biggest Ive ever seen, lots of birds out there looking but not working anything.
Odds are tomorrow will be tuna and mahi central - everybody go and get some. Call me with a chunk of yellowfin : )
Water looked great, and the seas were a very manageable 1-2 with mostly a gently swell.

Thanks for the report. Too bad about the Whiteys.
That is one of the hardest fish to hook sometimes but they really wolf down a bare ballyhoo on the pitch. Maybe just a real small color skirt on the nose to help them with the visual.

Thanks for reporting... Gonna try to get out that way next week if all goes well. Some days just aren't meant to be, but victory next time will be even sweeter. I'm ready for that victory myself, as my last trip went something similar to yours.
Give a man a fish, and you will feed him for a day....
Teach a man to fish, and he will keep bait in the freezer.

Excellent report. Headed to the nipple bright and early this morning on the 31' Fountain. Primarily targeting whitey, wahoo, and mahi. Sounds like the fish are there. Hope to be posting a very successfull report tomorrow.
