Default Snapper Trip, Thursday, 7/12

My son and his girlfriend got here Wednesday night for Blue Angel Weekend and they really wanted to fish. Got a late start, getting to our spot around 11 with a box of frozen cigs and some squid. Fished one small spot for three hours and the action was pretty steady. The red snapper we kept were nice sized but most of what we pulled in were triggerfish. Had several extremely strong fish on, most likely sharks, and one broke an 80 lb. test PowerPro line after a 15 minute fight. Another broke a Penn reel. Have heard from other guys that the sharks are in large numbers this year. Bottom line is that the weather was perfect, seas were flat, the snapper were good sized, and the Blue Angels were overhead. Great day!

Nice! Most of our spots are infested with triggers too. One black snapper hole is virtually unfishable now because of the armored piranhas. They need more protection.
