By way of introduction, I have been fishing out of East Pass for a couple of years since retiring from LSU. I've also been reading the PFF but only joined recently and this is my first post. On a good day my 19 ft Key West CC will take me up to ten miles out.

I thought yesterday would be a good day but the weather man got it wrong. Forecast was for light winds and one foot seas with a 3 second period. White caps and chop all morning. More like 2 ft and <2 sec period. Wind out of the SE but current kept us pointing NE and in the trough while anchored on spot lock. Didnít venture much farther than A Leg. Surprisingly we boated a bunch of Gafftop and White Seatrout while bottom fishing for Vermilion. Several Red Snapper inc one at 18 inches. Trolled Rapala X-rap Magnum 30s to west past mid channel buoy then trolled east. No strikes, no surface activity visible given the chop, and no birds. We did see quite a few dead fishes, mostly catfish, and assumed they were victims of red tide.

Welcome to the forum and you will get the hang of it with a few trips under your belt. Then it gets easier to get on fish! By the way I call NOAA. NOWAY, because they are never right!

if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

We left out of Pensacola at 8 and hit the pass with great excitement. Seas were awesome. We went to make bait at the mass...which was disappointing...and then we headed SE. It wasnít but a few miles into our run and the calm seas turned. The rest of the day we fantasized about the seas calming down, but it just didnít happen. Went 112 miles round trip. Even though we didnít get our limit of AJ and grouper, we did catch a ton of fish and had a great time. Glad to get out. Hereís one of the bonus fish. We got in after dark so too tired for the rest of the fish pics.
