Default G-Man Stressless Rockhound -n- Kings 8 Jul 08

Got out with my Bro and G-man our German friend Jance on Tuesday and had the weather for it pegged. Thought we might get between the storms that showed up on Weatherunderground radar and hit a mess of edge spots - got to the 3rd set of buoys and saw this

and WORSE to the SE which is where we were headed. Pulled out the blackberry and uploaded the radar and it showed a mess to the S and SE. Decided to troll and drift the Mass after catching a nice bunch of hardtails, cigs, and threadfins.

Rigged up one flat line and one with about 1/3oz egg sinker in front of the swivel. Started out with the flat line only and after we saw a couple kings sky on other shoals of bait I knew it was a just a matter of time. Well I thought the correct amount of time had passed and G-Man started casting with a jig I rigged up with wire - first couple casts he has a nice 2-3# Spanish, he keeps casting and we go for 30 mins without a bite. I keep saying that the hard tail we have on will get crushed - ought to have gotten crushed... then ZZZzzzzzzzzz off it goes!

G-man is up first and he says something in German and I look and see yellow backing peeking out after 150 yards of powerpro = Hmmmm might be a nice king - his eyes are pretty big and says something about tightening the drag. I tell to wait a min turn the boat and give chase. He gets most of the powerpro back and is ALL smiles again. A couple more good runs, spiral into the gaff

and over the gunnel he comes.

After that I put the weighed line out and had hookup's pettry quick. Rockhounds turn at the rod adn he put a hurt on the king.

Got him Gaff pertty quick adn we're 2 for 2.

We caught a couple big spanish on cigs and threadfins and caught the big kings on a hardtail and cig.

G-man was up fro king number 3 and this guy was a smake but went in the cooler as well.

Decided to make a short day of it and hit Ft to show him the sites and real lagoons.

Got back t o the dock after a nice ride tight up on the Gulf Breeze shoreline (SE wind was blowing!)

Got some snaps of cleaning fish on the new table.

Great day with the biggest saltwater fish for G-Man and Rockhound. Screaming drags and and ocean breeze - a great day.

3 Kings to 26#

3 Spanish to 5#

Try cutting the perimeter of the filet all the way around it, and use pliers to pull the skin off. just a suggestion, I know the meat is hard to cut off the skin on those.

Another trick I saw was to get just the start of the skin off and cut a slit in the skin. You can then get your fingers through the slit asa pull point to remove the rest of the meat as you use your knife to slice.
