Default Fish Id help

Caught this one the other day on a party boat in Destin. Haven’t seen one like this before, thought some sort of mackerel, but none have markings like this. Think I’ve seen one but forgot actual name.

For whatever reason, I have never caught one over here. I have caught a dump truck load of them in LA.

Not a skipjack. Skipjack only has a few stripes and they are 100% horizontal. What you are looking at is a true Atlantic bonito. They are the link between the tuna family and the mackerel family. We used to call those "northern mackerel ". Not bad eating. Used to catch a ton of those off the old Dan Russell pier in PC, but I've never caught a single one off PB pier, either the old wood pier or the new cement pier.

Very mild tasting, good sashimi, lighter colored than normal tuna. We got into them just outside the surf zone a few years back off Pensacola. The teeth surprised me
