Left the dock around 6:15, caught some bait at the pass and stated heading towards the nipple to check on some structures I had marked on google earth, half way there started to see some storms straight south and didn’t like it at all, the closer we were getting was getting worse so I did turn east trying to get away from the storm, as we were passing some public spot stoped to check them out, first drop triple hoop up, 3 red snapper, few more drops and more snappers, so I dropped a hard tail hoping to get something different, and as soonest I dropped I felt a little steady and heavier hit, definelly was not a snapper, I managed to turn its head up and reel up few feet up and I felt slack on line, fish started to come up to the surface so i thought “maybe Cobia” few seconds later was confirmed Cobia on, change gaffs and make space to receive our new guest lol, my buddy gaffed and dropped it in the fish cooler sucefully, high fives and few laughs we headed back to the spot, few more drops and we decided to try something different, we did some trolling again with no success, we headed to the spots I had marked around 10:00 got there 20 minutes lates and started trolling to mark where the fish was, marked probably 15 spots few very promising, one of them very good bit with solid hook ups but all of them broke off, we were using 80 lb leader, next time we will bring some heavier leader just in case, around 1 started to head back, stoped at several other spot with no success, so decided to try the same spot we caught Cobia in the morning, stoped at it and bottom machine lid up, fish everywhere, I was doing only fly line, my buddy bottom fishing and few drops later he got something heavy and ask for help lol, started peeling line out, i thought maybe a small king until came up on surface too, that’s a Cobia again I said, sure it was, changed gaff and clear the deck and gaffed it right on the back, not a really good shot to be honest, but could be worse lol, anyway the bigger one I am holding weighted 29.5 lbs and the smaller one 25 lbs, not really pretty waters (color) but we managed to put some quality fish in the cooler.
