Default Cobia wouldn’t eat...

We Went offshore yesterday first trip in a long time. Headed south to pick up some triggers a few Mingo and an almaco. We caught a bunch small triggers. I did pick up a small flounder and A bunch of large red snappers that went back. We then went on the search for some Mahi or anything else floating. We came upon a dead turtle with a bunch of remoras and 2 big cobia. The cobia came to the boat and circled. We tried jigs but only had one cigar. We couldn’t them to eat anything. The remoras were annoying so we threw them some chum so we could focus on the cobia. After about 5 min they swam off. Frustrating to say the least. We were about 15 miles out. We found a weed debris line with no life. Fun day but a big cobia would of topped it off. Any tips of what we could of done different fo get cobia to eat

Silver Satan Sweet Teeth. I've heard that works.

That or free-gaff.

Big live pinfish are pretty close to a sure thing. First of the week I had a 40-50 pound cobia in the bay come up with a turtle and even though I had big pins in the well, I didn't have a rod rigged and let him slip away. I know better.
Oh, and the free gaff thing, leave that to Bodupp. Trust me.

Thanks yeah I wondered if I had a big live bait if it would’ve been a different story I thought about going rogue and just jumping on him with a knife. We will be smarter next time

Default Cobia wouldn’t eat...

If you’re up to it, works every time. I always kept a speargun and mask and snorkel on my boat even on non diving trips just for cobes.

Just make sure those mingo are legal size before you throw them in the live well. Just in case...
