Default Yellowfin Tuna

Where can I fish to get some decent yellowfin tuna? I am not looking for big ones, ones just big enough to get some nice steaks out of (sorry for ending the sentence in a preposition). I will be using 50 lb. Mono and 50. lb test, should that be ok? What bait, time of day, procedure, etc.? Trolling is not preferred but if it is necessary I understand. What is the spot where I could fish for them that is closet to shore? Help is greatly needed and appreciated.

Thanks

Your best shot at yft is going to be chunking around the rigs. Oil rigs.
Somebody always will luck up on one or two around the edge in the winter but they are not predictable or terribly common close to home for us here.
Blackfin are a better bet come December-February at the edge or while trolling the elbow, nipple, spur etc.

This. Chunking or live bait at the rigs (small hardtails and threadfin). Petronius is the closest rig from pensacola pass and about 70 nm.

If you want to avoid the sharks this time of year head to some open water tuna spots....if you can find the bait the first hour or two of light you can find the tuna.
