Default What's fishing like up around Pensacola?

Hey Guys,

I'm a Charter Captain down in Puerto Aventuras, MX.

I am going to be traveling the Gulf Coast of Florida and am looking for places to fish.

I am interested in what you fish for and how you do it (trolling, jigging, whatever).

I am looking for new places and new friends!

Can some of you guys help point me in the right direction?

Thanks & Cheers,
Rico

With 600-2000ft being roughly within 60-70nm from land people fish for inshore species all the way out to blue water species. Pretty much everything under the sun is fished for from the "Emerald Coast." Snappers, Groupers, Jacks, Sharks, Tunas, Billfishes, Mackerels, Swordfish, Dolphinfish, etc...

I would love to catch some decent size grouper! 50 + lbs would be nice!

The gulfstream runs about 1/2 mile from the back of my house. I'm pretty spoiled!

I guess you guys use fast outboards to get out and back? I've got a twin engine diesel. It would kill me to have to go tht far out.

Try any natural bottom or rocky area with cigar minnows, pinfish, anything like that for scamp grouper. Don't know much about grouper fishing but I know that much. Structure is the key for most things.

How far out do you generally have to go to get a shot at big grouper? How big are the grouper routinely caught down there?

What fishing? If you come up here you better like to hunt undersize deer after driving 3 hours to do it cause they are trying everything they can to close the Gulf down to REC fisherman all together and that includes Charter captins. 1 Month Snapper season with one or two days the weather allows you to go and if you get out they close Grouper, AJ, and trigger while Snapper is open just incase you can get a bait past the Snapper and do catch one of the other fish on the structure you have to throw it back. Other then that it's great.
