Default What should I tell them?

Last year my son and I went out on a 6 hour charter and caught our limit on Amberjack. We trolled for kings to the fishing spot and back and hooked up twice. The thing is that we drove for 2.5 hours each way and only actually fished for 1 hour but for all I know that is the norm. The Jacks were so big that my son (8 at the time and now 9 and small) couldn’t really do much. With that said he loved every minute of it and wants to do it again this year. However, I would really like to do a trip where we actually did a little more fishing and hopefully target “some” fish that he could actually catch start to finish. We will be there the first week of August and I know that affects the different species that you can go after. Any suggestions as to what type of trip I should tell the Capt. we are looking for? There are only 2 of us so hopefully we can find a boat with 4 or so others looking to do the same thing.

Best thing to do is find some more that's willing to go and book a 10 hour trip. You will be able to get in a lot more fishing time that way. Gonna be a little more expensive though.

I may stand corrected but if you did inshore there are more fish that won't be as big for your son to catch. Even in that case there are still bug enough fish for you to catch as well.

Agreed... get one of the many outstanding inshore guides we have in the area. They'll put you on speckled trout, red fish, flounder, etc... your boy will have a blast with that; no doubts in my mind

try an inshore guy if u do 6 hours most will do a combo trip and do some snapper and mackerel fishing along with trout and redfish and they specialize in light tackle which will make it easier on your kid lots of problems kids have is they are fighting the rod more than the fish good luck
