Default Trolling with Spanish

I thought I saw where someone was trolling with spanish. How many people do this and are you rigging them like a split tail or what? Naked, I guess?

We use to troll them when able to use j hooks , but between the weehoos , Cudas, etc it was worth it . We use them now for pitch baiting , circle hook out in front .

So you wouldn't pull them with circle hooks?

We don't , like I said with the other fish eating them , and the money and time it cost to rig the. One time around the rig and cuda eats it and its over . To me its not worth it .

I use them and rig them on skirted lures in place of horse Ballyhoo. I consider the Spanish a freebee because horse Ballyhoo are about $5.00 a pop at Half Hitch. I rig them the same as I would the Ballyhoo. Behind the Illander lures they are a great combination for Wahoo.

So when you rig the Spanish, do you use a double hook rig and a little larger egg sinker for a chin weight?

I don't rig double hooks anymore. I may miss a hook up every now and then but I'm OK with that. I'll use a chin weight only if the bait is behind a mylar teaser. Behind a lure, I still use 1 hook and no chin weight.

Default trolling with spanish

Is it legal to troll with Spanish mackerel? I thought it is illegal to use any part of a game fish.
