Default Questions about fishing for smaller reef fish

I fish for snapper and grouper alot, but I rarely catch the smaller reef fish. Anybody have any suggestions for targeting smaller reef fish, maybe type of bait or water depth. Any help would be appretiated (mingos, triggerfish, etc.)

Small hooks and squid seem to usually get the smaller ones to bite, but you'll still catch snapper

Small hooks, #2, and small bait are definitely the right answer. One square inch of squid folded over works well for me.

And of course drop the less attractive table fair back down as live bite.

do the smaller reef fish hold on the same spots as the snapper and grouper, I've oft wondered the same thing, I haven't caught a trigger fish, lane or beeliner in years

Do you fish the same # line as you would for snapper or do you lighten up some, I'm assuming an egg sinker, bead, swivel, leader and hook setup......

When fishing for smaller reef fish use a bank sinker on bottom and at least two small hooks on dropper loops with squid chunks. You can add more hooks if desired.
