Default Public spots still producing?

I haven't been able to make it down in a while, and I'm not one of the lucky or rich ones that has a bunch of his own private spots. Earlier in the summer the public stuff out of Perdido Pass was pretty good. Same over on the Florida side. Can I still catch a limit of snaps on them? If so, is there a certain area of the public stuff I need to go? Thanks.

Get beyond about 20 miles from the Pass and the public spots should still be producing for you.

South or southwest from Perdido or does it matter? Just more than 20?

Lots of fish out there. This was a few weekends back on tanks 22 miles SW of perdido.

Great mess of fish. Live bait? Light leaders?

The tanks were getting slammed by the party boats a couple of weeks back.
I was on public numbers close by and we slammed the RS. I was running a 8ft leader with 50 lb mono. Nothing special. Caught 8 in a few minutes and left. Big one was 22lbs. My buddies were all running 30lb Fluor with a 3ft leader. I caught 5 before they put one in the boat. I like the longer leader but I like to lock my drag down too.

I've been fishing public shots within 7 miles of the Destin pass exclusively and we've caught keeper Red Snapper (mostly 16-18" but up to 15 lbs) and legal Mingos every trip.

Wish I could get down that far, but I'm out of either perdido or penscola, with perdido being closer.
