Default Oilspill & Red Snapper Season Length

If this has already been previously raised I apologize for bringing it up again. But here's my question/ concern:

Will the Gulf Council <span style="text-decoration: underline;">EXTEND the June 1 - July 24 Red Snapper season until the quota has been deemed to have been caught?

What with all the federal waters closures because of the spill, we all know darn well that there are little to no red snapper being caught right now - especially off Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabammy.

NMFS S.E. Regional Director Roy Crabtree has gone on record many times saying that the 2010 Red Snapper season is June 1 to July 24 but could close earlier if the quota has been deemed by GMFMC to have been caught earlier than anticipated.

Well guess what Roy? The reverse side of the coin is true too - if the red snapper quota hasnt been caught by July 24, the season must be extended until the quota has been caught.

We all know darn well that the quota won't be caught by July 24. Hell, it won't be caught by AUGUST 24! HEY ROY, WE WANT OUR FISH!

i have heard that they will keep the season open into the fall until the quotas are filled. i guess that would depend on if federal waters did open back up this year. hopefully sooner than later.

7C -

one of the guys in my fishing club was attending the SAFMC Council hearings in Orlando this week. He said someone asked Crabtree about extending the gulf red snapper season. Crabtree replied with one of his famous "non-answer answers", which is Gummint Doublespeak for F.U.

Looks like Crabtree is fixing to use this oilspill as an excuse for yet another corncobbing of us Gulf recs.
