Default Offshore capabilities for Destin.

This summer I might be able to go offshore about 15-20 miles. I was just wondering what kind of fish you can get at 15-20 miles out besides bottom fishing. Can you target mahi mahi/ wahoo/ sailfish/ tuna? I know that you can get almost all of those fish by chance but I'm wondering if you can effectivly targeted them out there. If so, how?

What kind of boat, whats the fuel cap and the biggest issue is what are the sea conditions. I use to have a 18ft neptune and would go 25 miles out to the edge (where you can catch all those mentioned) on calm days. Now i have a 21 cape and have taken it 70 miles out on good days but venture more then a few if the seas are rough--Sam

jim has seen blue marlin raised that close in bro. Fishing is about 98 percent chance anyway but yea , you can make it out to the edge you can catch all of that. in the winter time the blue water comes in really close.

SW Edge and south of there. start at 24 miles on a 210. troll up and down the edge with marlin lures, islander ballyhoos, cedar plugs. We have raised everything from wahoos to dolphin to BF tunas to kings/sharks/bonitas. I have seen sails and White Marlin there. Blues could show up there if lucky, but most will be south of there.

Ozark - a bit further and straight south. lots of BF tunas, wahoos, some mahi and sailfish there. seen whites there too.

Those would be the two closest...except for the recent summer sailfish seen right near the beach. who knows. try to pull a billfish spread down the beach and see what happens - I caught my first sail at the bridge rubble. you never know...

So where is this edge? Is it some dropoff? I have a map that shows the depths and I see that about 12-15 miles out there, there is a pretty big dropoff from about 70ft to about 100ft. Is this it?

Also what would be a typical trolling rig out there?

,
thanks
