Default off shore newbie.

we just bought a 21 foot trophy w/a cuddy with a 120 hp and 80gal tank.the off shore fishing will be new to us.i really don't know how far it would be safe to go out in it.so for now i think we will stay where we can see the shore.where would be some places to start fishing for us to learn the ropes.we will put in in the orange beach or Pensacola area.
we have owned small fishing boats and a 26 foot pontoon for 10 plus years.its just the salt water stuff is new.
thanks for any help..

I would start off by first getting either seatow or boat us tow before you put it in the water and then I would fill the tank up and taking it out and troll and run up and down the beach to find out what your fuel burn is so you know the capability of the boat.

i have 20' bayliner w/ 120 hp mercury. It gets really good gas mileage. I think youll be suprised how much you can go on a gas tank. We normally fill with 1/2 - 3/4 tank and go all day a few miles out. if you have gps you can google florida fish and widlifwe coordinates and you will find 2011 coordinates for this area. Suppose to be pretty accurate. If this is your first boat then you need to take boaters safety course online or at west marine! I third the BoatUS!!

I'd post a new thread in the need a crew section looking for an experienced captain who can show you the ropes of offshore boating, ie, navigating the pass, the mass ship, making bait, and maybe hit some nearshore public numbers to show you what it takes to hold the boat over good bottom. It might cost you some beer, or a few bucks but 1 good day with an experienced captain will save you a year of frustration and put you ahead of the curve.
